Unipol Headquarters

UnipolSai Assicurazioni SpA / Mario Cucinella Architects

The building structure, rising 125 meters into the sky and occupying a 3,300 square meter area, features a dialogue between wood, metal, and glass textures. Curved wooden pillars twist and intertwine, ascending to create a rhombus-shaped vertical nest on the rounded walls. The primary entrance is marked by a large atrium towering 75 meters high, which not only provides ample space for climate regulation but also leverages exhibitions as energy sources. The innovative double-skin outer layer functions as a dynamic system, effectively insulating the building during winter while also preventing overheating in summer. Moreover, the geometry of this envelope contributes to the tower's energy efficiency by optimizing the façade area. Inside, the rounded terraces of various dimensions can be observed, housing offices, common spaces, and small winter gardens. The atmosphere within resembles a white forest, courtesy of the curved wooden pillars surrounding the hall. From here, visitors can access an auditorium or café, while the upper floors accommodate offices for approximately 2,000 people, along with work and meeting spaces. The Vertical Nest is designed to be highly sustainable and advanced in terms of climate and energy efficiency. Resource consumption is minimized, with strategically placed solar panels and integrated rainfall collection systems incorporated into the stunning design, akin to the glazed sail above the entrance.
