The master plan aims to create a new neighborhood in Milan by integrating fragmented urban areas with existing green spaces. Activities promoting learning, growth, living, and working will be added, prioritizing health and the environment through innovative methods. Aria will be Milan's first Carbon Negative Area, targeting LEED Gold certifications for buildings and LEED for Cities and Communities: Plan & Design certification for the master plan. This will be achieved through green deployment, smart material selection, and innovative energy use, including a fifth-generation district heating network and photovoltaic systems. Plants and natural systems will purify indoor air, regulate water, capture CO2, and filter pollutants. The project will regenerate industrial buildings while preserving cultural heritage, promoting circularity in building materials to reduce emissions by 52%. The development will include social and market housing, offices, a university, a kindergarten, neighborhood services, a museum, and commercial activities. Strategies for human, social, and environmental adaptability will involve building an active community during construction and promoting urban, social, and cultural diversity through accessible design solutions.
