Santnerpass Hut

Senoner Tammerle Architekten

Perched 2,734 meters up in the Rosengarten massif, the Santnerpass Hut is a striking A- frame shelter designed by Bolzano-based firm Senoner Tammerle Architekten. Replacing a 1950s structure, the 16-room refuge is clad in galvanized steel to withstand the harsh mountain conditions, while its triangular truss frame and interiors feature locally sourced spruce, larch, and maple. The minimalist wood interiors recede to showcase the breathtaking UNESCO protected Dolomite views from every room. Designed for sustainable alpine living, the hut integrates passive heating and offers minimalist furnishings with built-in seating and beds tucked into private niches. Accessible only after a three-hour hike, the refuge welcomes weary travelers with warm hospitality, serving traditional alpine meals like dumplings and apple strudel. The Santnerpass Hut exemplifies modern, sustainable mountain architecture, harmonizing with its natural environment while offering comfort and refuge for hikers amidst the dramatic Dolomites.
