At an altitude of 2,850 meters in the western Alps, this striking bivouac is built in memory of climber Stefano Berrone, encapsulating his spirit of adventure and dedication to the mountains. The shelter's design draws inspiration from traditional tents, featuring a folded wooden and aluminum shell that mimics the lightweight, protective qualities of a tent while offering modern durability. The architectural design features four strategically placed windows that enhance the occupants' experience of the surrounding environment, promoting a 360-degree view of the alpine landscape. The radial layout inside encourages community and interaction, with beds arranged around a central area that serves as a symbolic fireplace, reminiscent of gathering spaces in traditional tents. Constructed from cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels supported by a robust steel base, the structure minimizes environmental impact through its lightweight, minimally invasive approach. The design allows for rapid assembly and disassembly, ensuring the shelter can be relocated or removed with ease, reflecting the principle of reversibility.
