On, the Swiss running footwear brand, has unveiled its latest innovation, the On Mountain Hut, nestled nearly 2,500 me- ters above sea level on the Piz Lunghin in the Swiss Alps. This reflective, minimalist mountain cabin was built to cele- brate the company’s roots in the Engadin Valley, where On’s co-founders, Olivier Bernhard, Caspar Coppetti, and David Allemann, first conceived the brand during a hike. Designed by On’s art director, Thilo Alex Brunner, the hut serves as a tribute to the spectacular landscape and the company’s new hiking footwear collection, including the Cloudrock Waterproof hiking shoe. Accessible only on foot, the two-story hut offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Alps. With an ethos fo- cused on simplicity, it includes essential facilities but nothing superfluous, creating a space for hikers to disconnect and reconnect with nature. The structure, clad in reflective cor- rugated material, blends seamlessly into the alpine environ- ment, ensuring minimal visual impact. Sustainability is at the forefront of the design, with the hut constructed using 100% sustainable materials and powered by solar energy, while rainwater and mountain stream water are filtered for use. The interior features plywood walls, floors, and ceiling, along- side simple furniture and a wood-burning stove. Designed to leave zero waste upon deconstruction later this year, the On Mountain Hut embodies the fusion of tradition and innovation, highlighting the brand’s commitment to sustainable design and its deep connection to the Swiss Alps.
