New Gervasutti Bivouac

Leap Factory

Designed by LEAPfactory, it is an innovative alpine survival pod, crafted for extreme environments. Installed on the Freboudze glacier in the Mont Blanc Range, this refuge was commissioned by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI Torino) and built with support from SUCAI and the Ski Mountaineering School. The modular structure was prefabricated and airlifted to the site, allowing swift assembly in a remote, challenging setting. Its striking red design ensures visibility for climbers, while the durable, high-quality materials provide resilience against harsh mountain climates. Inside, the pod features bunk beds, storage, and a living area with a kitchen, dining table, and large panoramic window for spectacular valley views. Photovoltaic panels on the exterior power the pod, supporting an integrated computer that supplies real-time weather and climate information. LEAPfactory’s sustainable design minimizes environmental impact, with future modular expansion or part replacement as needed. Inspired by Radical Architectural Utopias of the 1960s, the refuge combines comfort with environmental sensitivity. The company is also exploring waste management solutions to address waste disposal in remote locations, underscoring its commitment to sustainable, low-impact alpine living.
