Bivacco Bredy

BCW Collective

Bivacco Brédy, designed by BCW Collective, is an aluminum-clad hikers’ cabin perched 2,528 meters above sea level in Italy's Aosta Valley. Conceptualized as a memorial to Claudio Brédy, a local politician and Alpinist who died in 2017, the minimalist shelter offers breathtaking views of the Grivola and Gran Paradiso mountains, which Claudio Brédy once climbed with a large window oriented towards Claudio's beloved peaks. The cantilevered cabin symbolizes both protection and openness, evoking the absence of a cherished community member. The minimalist design emphasizes connection to the landscape, maximizing solar gain to warm the shelter in winter. Inside, pale timber interiors feature three bunk beds, a window seat, a desk bookshelf, and ample storage for hiking equipment. The design maximizes functionality while immersing visitors in the surrounding landscape. Prefabricated to minimize its impact on the natural site, the shelter was delivered by helicopter and assembled in a few days. A metal-frame foundation anchors it to the rocky surface, ensuring minimal disturbance and enabling future relocation if necessary.
